FAQs

I am simply using AI within my business. Is the ISO standard relevant to me?

Yes, the standard is relevant to your business regardless if you are a user, producer, provider or partner. The standard has been designed to ensure that the use of AI is conducted responsibly and safely regardless of your position. If your business is using AI, for example, the requirement is to ensure that it is providing reliable responses and if there are issues, they must be recorded.

Can I only have the AI standard? Or do I need to have more, such as Quality or Information Security?

The AI standard can be obtained as a standalone standard. It is not essential to have other standards, although this may fit your systems. If you are unsure please speak to us and we can review your business and give you an honest opinion of what you could have in place. It is our policy not to oversell as this will only produce an unhappy client.

Is the AI standard similar to the other ISO standards?

The AI standard is aligned to other ISO standards, although it is with the Information Security standard that it mirrors the most. Clauses 6 and 8 refer to the risk assessments, treatments (mitigations) and impacts of the AI that is in place. The standard specifically highlights the risks that are in place so your business is able to look into them and reduce the impact as much as possible.

The standard does not seem to go into much detail. Am I missing something?

While the clauses of the standard are quite generic, it is the annexes that hold much of the detail. Annexes A and B are loaded with a lot of information that must be reviewed. For example, annexes A4.4 and B4.4 review the tooling resources. Therefore, the business must understand what tooling is used (algorithm types, data conditioning tools etc.) and then document how they are used within the AI system.
