FAQs

Can I implement this standard on its own?

Yes. This standard can be obtained as a standalone. While this is more than reasonable, most businesses will usually obtain the Quality standard alongside it, or if the setting relates to laboratories then that standard (ISO 17025) will be obtained as this includes a section relating to a Quality Management System.

Will this standard ensure that I meet legal requirements and prevent work related injuries?

The short answer is no, but the standard does require your business to understand and adhere to your legal requirements and put measures in place (RAMS, for example) that will help to keep your employees, contractors and the public safe. The implementation of the standard will then enable your business to put appropriate measures and safeguards in place that will help with safety and legal compliance.

If we implement this standard how does it apply to contractors and members of the public?

It very much depends upon your business. If you are a builder and run a site, then you will ensure that safety measures are enforced and relate to your employees as well as contractors and members of the public. All processes and procedures that are in place will be site wide and apply to everyone, regardless of whether they are worker, contractor or the public. In offices, for example, notices with regards to fire evacuation are required and if there is a drill or real event then the rules will apply to customers or members of the public who have visited your office.
